May 6th Artists

Cherylyn Gnadt
Printmaker, Mixed-Media and Collage

On a constant quest for balance as an artist, designer and Mom, she carves out creative time - sometimes quite literally. Her figurative work relies heavily on the process, intuition and explores narratives of empowerment, nature and healing through art. Cherylyn teaches printmaking, mixed-media and speaks about the business of art, creative flow and has been an artist facilitator for special needs adults. She has a traditional art education from the American Academy of Art, with continuous explorations in printmaking, mixed media, and business. She grew up in Addison and currently resides in Aurora with her daughter, Lauren and cat, Dandelion.

Phyllis J. Anderson

Ceramics and Metalworking

"I'm inspired by the colors, textures, play of light and shadow and exquisite beauty of nature and try to bring that into our everyday lives through decorative and functional items for the home and to wear. In the last few years, I’ve studied ceramics and metalworking to bring my art off the paper into three dimensions. Using semi precious stones, leather, metals, and clay really integrates the natural world into my work. Proud mom of a beautiful daughter, Elmhurst resident, nonprofit executive, Elmhurst University graduate (BA and MA), world traveler, voracious reader, avid bicyclist and yoga enthusiast.”

Alex Ptak

Simple compositions using light and shadow to convey a sense of reality and truth in a small  moment of time. I try to share with the viewer a sliver of my experience creating with those objects, their textures, their richness, their uniqueness and their personality.

May 7th Artists

Rebecca Russow

I started making my own art in 2019. I experiment with a variety of materials, including paper, wax, metal, clay, and pigment. Using visual and actual textures, color, and line to create unity and hopefully hold the viewer’s attention.

Charlene Lee-Freislinger

I’ve been drawing and painting since I was four years old and haven’t stopped since. I love to work in a variety of media: graphite, pen and ink, watercolor, acrylic, collage, and photography, although pen and ink is my passion. I’ve been creating original pen and ink house portraits for over thirty years. I’ve drawn houses across the United States and have portraits in London, Croatia, New Zealand, Scotland, Italy, Ireland and India. I love depicting the uniqueness of each house and how it relates to the owner’s family. By request, I will draw your favorite pet frolicking on the lawn or peeking out the front window.

I always take my sketch book on trips to capture the memories of the places I visit. And of course, I’ve drawn many of the historical landmarks in Elmhurst.

I continue to experiment in different media, peruse, and analyze my art. I can never stop growing as an artist.

Frank Maturo

“Hello, my name is Frank Isaac Maturo. I am a 20 year old artist who lives in Bloomingdale, IL with my mother, father and pet dog. I recently received my Associate’s Degree in the Fine Arts this past Winter from the College of Dupage. My mother comes from Oaxaca, MX and my father is an American of Italian and German descent. I am also a proud member of the neurodivergent community (Autism/ADD). I have been doing art since I was three years old and I have been experimenting with an array of styles and mediums ever since. Some things I like to draw and paint are landscapes, dot mandalas, abstract pieces, otherworldly scenes, windmills, and more. Through my art I hope to encourage those to follow their dreams as an artist and do art to make themselves happy.”
